Johnson & Johnson Health and Wellness Solutions (JJHWS) is a center of excellence for the Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices and Consumer sectors, focused on healthcare consumer engagement and behavior modification, leveraging behavioral science, analytics, and a common digital/IT platform.  JJHWS will partner closely with each sector’s strategic customer and franchise account groups to help guide the development of offerings to payers, providers and retail customers globally.
Johnson & Johnson Health and Wellness Solutions serves as an enterprise-wide group responsible for harnessing a J&J portfolio of capabilities to deliver innovative J&J enterprise solutions for J&J products in order to deliver improved health outcomes.  
Role Description
This position reports to the Director of Behavior Science and leads the development of scientific evidence standards across the JJHWS organization. These standards maintain the J&J brand equity of being a highly credible and science-based company as well as maximize health and wellbeing outcomes.  The Senior Manager of Science Standards in Healthcare Innovation is responsible for creating and managing processes that assure the best practices related to scientific evidence are applied across all JJHWS products and services. This role leads a team that researches, documents, and communicates the scientific evidence supporting each of the health behavior change intervention solutions using data from various sources. This existing evidence base informs the work of the behavior science team and the product content team.  Additionally, utilizing best-practice standards, the Science Standards team provides the scientific basis to support the development of J&J health system customer solutions including solutions that improve patient outcomes via the healthcare professional.  This role is responsible for creating communication and multi-modal training materials to support the adoption of best-practice evidence standards across the broader JJHWS organization including the marketing and quality assurance teams. This role participates in the creation and delivery of the Thought Leadership platform of the JJHWS science team.
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain J&J reputation and improve health and wellbeing outcomes by ensuring the adoption of science-based evidence best-practices throughout all JJHWS projects and products.
  • Develop training and communication programs to build skills related to best practice evidence standards for relevant JJHWS employees specifically product content team, marketing, copy clearance committee.
  • Manage Science Standards team priorities and deliverables associated with conducting literature reviews of relevant health, wellbeing and health care solutions and producing actionable executive summaries.  
  • Develop innovative methodologies and processes to incorporate patient-relevant data from digital epidemiology surveillance tools to inform evidence reviews of relevant health, wellbeing and health care solutions and producing actionable executive summaries.
  • Lead the creation of science based evidence that supports all JJHWS products and projects directed to the patient or consumer, and those that target the health care provider and their role of influence in patient health behavior and patient outcomes.
  • Lead the application of evidence and evidence standards in co-creation of solutions with strategic external J&J partners; health plans, health retailers, etc.
  • Manage the documentation processes that support the quality and integrity of evidence in all JJHWS initiatives; JJHWS products, co-created solutions with external J&J partners, and solutions involving health care providers.
  • Lead the development of evidence based points of view that contribute to JJHWS and broader J&J differentiation and thought leadership.
  • Responsible for leading a team of experts in communicating and presenting thought leadership ideas into the internal and external marketplace through participation/presentation at conferences, industry presentations, webinars, client meetings, etc.
  • Author peer reviewed journal articles and white papers related to the science team thought leadership work.
  • Manage and motivate the science standards team and ensure consistency of approach and optimal utilization and development of talent for the assigned projects.
  • Own talent development for the department to maintain competitive advantage & strengthen JJHWS, creating and sustaining a strong talent pipeline to meet current and future needs of the business and ensuring the development of future leaders.
  • Shape, through a collaborative leadership style, the ability to lead across multiple functions across all JJHWS and customers.
  • Inspire, motivate and communicate vision to associates, peers and senior leadership and build consensus and processes toward the adoption of and commitment to applying evidence based standards into all JJHWS products and services.
  • Align team resources to support organizational priorities, including budget management, to continue to meet business needs.
  • JJHWS behavior science team, product and product content team, enterprise solutions, marketing, JJHPI, copy clearance committee (CCC), data science, research and outcomes, JJHWS BUIT, relevant J&J strategic customer team including the retail commercial teams.
  • Behavior Science research and industry leaders, J&J key customers

  • A doctoral degree in the behavior and social sciences or another public health-related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of overall work experience including 5 years of direct experience in applying science based practices in technology based behavior change solutions.
  • 3 years of experience supervising and managing professional teams.
  • Experience in a corporate or private industry setting with a focus on improving health and well-being.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, adapt to change, and provide appropriate follow-through to effectively drive business results.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, build consensus and communicate cross-functionally.
  • Excellent writing skills particularly the ability to created synthesized reports of complex scientific literature and empirical evidence.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to bridge the gap between scientific research and business audiences.
  • Active listening skills, strong business acumen, and strong organizational skills required.
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment and meet short turnarounds and deadlines.
  • Professional scholarly activity (e.g. conference presentations, peer-reviewed publications, etc.).
  • A passion for excellence and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ability to travel up to 40%.
