This position will be based at the San Lorenzo facility for approximately 3 months following the start date. Subsequently, the position will be based at the Manatí facility. Ethicon is expanding its manufacturing operations to Manatí, Puerto Rico. Resources hired will work in San Lorenzo temporarily until the Manatí Manufacturing Facility is operational.

Under moderate level of supervision, and in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:
- Supports Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) audits/inspections and leads all aspects of the recommendations and process improvements. Support Site in achieving positive external/internal inspection results.
- Coordinates and performs internal audits periodically to assess systems/process effectiveness.
- Coordinates sampling new waste streams generated in the facility and regulatory samplings to demonstrate compliance within permits requirements.
- Revises annually J&J Environmental Standard. In addition will maintain updated environmental metrics and statistics such as: air emission inventory, water balance, hazardous and non-hazardous waste generation, biological waste inventory, and hazardous chemical inventory.
- Prepares periodic reports to the agencies according to the environmental planning (example: Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) Discharge Self-Monitoring reports, Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DENR) well extractions usage and sampling reports, DENR Monthly Sulfur Report, Tier I, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Biennial Report, Storm water quarterly reports, recycling reports, etc.)
- Directs and supervises all activities performed by the Wastewater Pretreatment Plant.
- Supports Business Continuity Plan (BCP) activities and be an active team member.
- Maintain a process for conducting a risk assessment for machine guarding to ensure that the performance of safety controls for newly acquired machinery is proportional to the risks as determined by use of the risk graph provided in ISO’s Safety of Machinery standard, #13849-1.
- Lead a comprehensive fire and explosion hazard identification/risk assessment – open flame processes and classified areas including inspection, testing and maintenance programs for critical fire safety equipment including container integrity, air-monitoring instruments, bonding and grounding devices, alarms and sprinkler systems, and portable fire extinguishers.
- Establish, implement, and maintain a written Hazardous Energy Control Program to protect personnel from unexpected startup, dangerous movement of machinery or equipment during service, maintenance, cleaning, or repair.
- Lead a Fall Prevention Site Assessment to identify the potential slip, trip and fall hazards of the facility, and to evaluate the risks associated with the identified hazards.
- Active participation with Human Resources and Occupational Health for Medical Case Management Process to ensure accurate response and recordkeeping requirements are met.
- As requested, lead EHS Integrated Owners of Safety Systems (IOSS) team. Coordinates meetings and assures team’s efficiency.
- Attend annual HAZWOPER, RCRA and DOT/IATA as needed.
- Provides knowledge and expertise to the Site population for the development of procedures, guidelines, and tools to maintain Site compliance with the existing and new regulatory requirements.
- Follow all EHS policies (i.e., ISO14001 & ISO 45001)
Qualifications
- University Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s Degree is preferred.
- A minimum of six (6) years related experience in Medical Devices, Pharmaceutical and/or Consumer industry is required.
- Administrative (supervision) experience is preferred.
- Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is desired.
- Availability to various work schedules, which may include 1st, 2nd, 3rd shifts and/or 12-hour daily shifts, including weekends and holidays is required.
- Proficient, speaks and writes English and Spanish is required.
- Good oral and written communication skills
- RCRA initial training within six months after employment and annual refresher.
- Able to walk constantly around the facilities.
- Capable of lifting objects during inspections
- Six Sigma Green Certification preferred.
