Janssen Research & Development is recruiting for a  Senior Scientist, Retinal Discovery located  on the  San Francisco Bay Campus in Brisbane, CA  to support drug discovery of novel therapeutics for retinal disease.

Janssen Pharmaceutical is  seeking creative and motivated scientists who can shape a discovery and development strategy and drive the pipeline for novel drug candidates that address key causes of blindness and vision loss worldwide. This position is laboratory-based and as the Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for study planning, execution, troubleshooting, and collaboration with a high degree of autonomy. The successful candidate will also be an effective and persuasive communicator, presenting key ideas to internal and external colleagues to enable effective coordination across multiple functions and groups.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Ph.D. with at least 4 years of post-graduate experience in a pharmaceutical or academic environment is required

Required:

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are required
  • This position may require 10% travel

Preferred:

  • Ophthalmology experience is preferred
  • Experience with primary and immortalized cell culture, in vitro and ex vivo assay development, and molecular biology techniques including western blotting and qPCR is preferred
  • Knowledge of retinal cell biology and experience in the culture and evaluation of retinal cell types is preferred
  • Understanding of the overall process of drug discovery and development is preferred

The base pay range for this position is $151,000 to $260,590. 

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
