The Associate Director, Gene Therapy Viral Technologies position in the RNA, Gene Therapy and Delivery Department of Janssen Therapeutics Discovery offers an exciting opportunity to help develop novel Gene Therapies for unmet medical needs. We are investigating the use of Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) vectors to deliver therapeutic proteins to patients for disease prevention and treatment, especially for ophthalmological, neurological, and novel therapies for infectious disease.
We are seeking a highly motivated and independent researcher to lead the group that is actively testing and developing technologies to expand gene therapies to common diseases with millions of patients. The manufacturing challenge requires innovations in engineering viruses and the cell lines used to produce them. Increased virus potency and altered tropism will be necessary to develop effective treatments for some diseases. This individual will play an important role in meeting these challenges and bringing innovative therapies to patients.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Lead a discovery research team developing innovative ways to produce viral vectors for Gene and Cell therapies at large scale through cellular- and virus-engineering, modulation of antiviral defenses, and inducible technologies.
- Subject matter expert in AAV biology and viral manufacturing.
- Stay ahead of the AAV gene therapy field by identifying new technologies outside the company and collaborating to critically evaluate these technologies for potential in-licensing or acquisition.
- Closely mentor scientists to further develop talent within the group.
- Execute research timelines to meet program and corporate objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and creative culture of scientific discovery.
