The In Silico Discovery (Computational Chemistry) Group at Janssen R&D in La Jolla, CA is seeking a current PhD student for a 10-12 week summer research internship . In this position, the intern will curate compound data to create and evaluate machine learning models for a program developing strategies to treat heme malignancies and other cancers.
The successful candidate will be competent in python, bash, or other programming languages; will have a working knowledge of organic chemistry; and will be familiar with computational chemistry methods such as machine learning, molecular dynamics, and free energy perturbation. Experience with tools such as Jupyter Notebooks, Pymol, and Schrodinger’s Maestro is preferred. The intern will work alongside a computational chemistry scientist and assist in experimental design, execution, and analysis.
This work will be performed in close collaboration with medicinal chemistry coworkers and the intern will be encouraged to discuss ideas and share results with the team.
A documented track record of research productivity is preferred. Qualified candidates are self-motivated, have strong interpersonal and analytical skills, and are excited to share fresh perspectives and tackle new challenges. The intern will be a member of a supportive and respectful environment where they will be able to learn and develop new skills while making a difference.
Calificaciones
Required:
• Pursuing a PhD with a focus on computational chemistry, data science, cheminformatics, machine learning, statistics, or related fields is required.
• Proficiency in coding in python and basic scripting is required.
Preferred:
• Familiarity with python libraries such as jupyter, rdkit, pandas, and sckit-learn.
• Experience with basic machine learning.
• Experience with computational chemistry methods such as molecular dynamics and docking.
• Working knowledge of organic chemistry.
• Documented track record of publications and/or Github repositories.
