As the Manager of the Automation Core Team, you will lead a motivated group of engineers and scientists passionate about developing and implementing automation solutions to support our Cell Therapy department. You will be responsible for driving innovation, ensuring process efficiency, and coordinating the delivery of automation services that are integral to the success of our innovative cell therapy programs. You will collaborate cross-functionally with R&D and manufacturing teams to meet business goals, while encouraging a culture of innovation within the automation team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small, high-performing automation team.
  • Drive the design, development, and deployment of innovative automation systems to support cell therapy operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including R&D and Manufacturing) to identify automation opportunities, develop requirements, and deliver solutions that enhance scalability and productivity.
  • Manage the lifecycle of automation systems, from conceptual design through implementation, validation, and ongoing support.
  • Ensure that all automation projects comply with operational and safety protocols.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, trends, and partners in automation to continually improve our capabilities.
  • Support the development of SOPs and user documentation related to automation systems.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring the timely and on-budget delivery of projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or a related field (Advanced degree preferred) and 6+ years of experience in automation, preferably within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences field is required
  • Demonstrated experience leading small teams, with a focus on mentoring and professional development is required.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex automation projects in a cross-functional, matrixed team environment is required.
  • Expertise in automation platforms and liquid handling technologies (e.g., Biomek, Labcyte, Tecan, Hamilton, Brooks, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with cell therapy R&D or other immunotherapeutics preferred.
  • Experience with automation scheduling software, Cellario, Momentum, Green Button Go or others is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and leadership abilities.
  • This role is based in Spring House, PA and may require up to 10% travel.
