The Braid Utility is responsible for using equipment for the assembly and processing tasks to produce finished products according to established specifications. Accountable for adhering to all quality and safety guidelines.

The Braid Utility operator is responsible for the processing of braided absorbable sutures in operators including skeining, scouring, hot stretch, rack winding, annealing, bulk spooling, inspection, and pre-processing.  All activities must be completed in accordance with process specifications and procedures

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

·        Operates production equipment to produce subassemblies or finished products.

·        Assists with set up of equipment.

·        Assists with quality control inspections of products on assembly line.

·        Cleans equipment as needed.

·        Notifies supervisor of maintenance and/or repairs needed on equipment.

·        Prepares accurate records/documentation related to work in progress.

·        Reports production problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job with multiple functions separated for Cross Training / Interim Training Purposes.

·        Must cross train on all jobs in department based on business needs.

·        Able to fill in for associates as needed.

Preprocessor

·        Load rackwinding machine and wind material onto racks.

·        Make diameter checks of each spool of suture being wound.

·        Take tension checks of wound material and verify that the tension readings are within specification.

·        Create and verify tickets and labels.

·        Load racks into appropriate anneal oven and change programs if necessary.

·        Place chart on required oven and lock chart into place. Make periodic checks of the oven to ensure it is running within specification. Record information on chart.

·        After cycle is complete, verify chart status for accuracy and completeness.

·        Keep track of anneal oven cleaning schedules for every anneal oven. Flag ovens that need cleaning with appropriate form.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow Line Clearance Procedure.

Bulkspool

·        Operate spooling machines to wind braided annealed material onto spools.

·        Create required labels.

·        Verify total yardage of entire lot.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

Pliabilization & Testing

·        Load braided suture material onto the pliabilization machine as required.

·        Ensure machine is properly set up for the size being pliabilized.

·        Pull samples.

·        Perform appropriate tests for suture material.

·        Enter test results in current testing data entry system.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

Hot Stretch

·        Set up and operate hot stretch machines per specification.

·        Verify all necessary readings.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

Inspector

·        Perform inspection by use of electric device to check for quality of the braided material.

·        Identify and remove all defects.

·        Perform minor adjustments on inspection machine as needed.

·        Create labels.

·        Pull required samples and disposition lot.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

Skein/Scour Operator

·        Transfer material from braider reels onto skeins.

·        Scour skeins of material per specification.

·        Prepare required spool identification labels for further processing.

·        Assure required samples are taken.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

Mixing Operator

·        Weigh and mix coating solution per specification.

·        Set up mixing equipment for particular product.

·        Calculate percent solids of the coating solution and record data as required.

·        Test coating solution per specification.

·        Clean mixing equipment as required.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

Canister Cleaner

·        Clean mixing equipment as required.

·        Clean coating equipment as required.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

Heat Tip & Cut

·        Set up machine per requirements of order.

·        Make any necessary machine adjustments.

·        Pull samples, perform required tests, and disposition lot.

·        Wrap strand ends together in predetermined amounts.

·        Complete Device History Record and other related forms using Good Documentation Practices.

·        Follow the Line Clearance Procedure.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary.

·        Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions.

·        Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, Instron, etc.) where applicable.

·        Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.)

·        Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE’s), if applicable

·        Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives.

·        Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care.

·        Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation).

·        Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

·        Consistently meet required Training due date targets.

·        Maintain certification for testing.

·        Support LEAN and Six Sigma initiatives.

·        Perform physical inventory and cycle counting of Extrusion in-process fiber.

·        Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level

·        For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable

·        Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures

·        Performs other duties assigned as needed

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

·        Required:  High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent skills, experience, or training.

·        Generally, Requires 0-2 Years Work Experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES and AFFILIATIONS

·        Computer skills.

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills.

·        Problem solving.

·        Ability to use lasermike, diameter gauge, hand-held diameter gauge, tensiometer, read scales, tachometer, pyrometer, ruler, calculator, copier and label making equipment.

·        General knowledge of basic hand and power tools.

·        Maintain production records.

·        Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, average, percentages, tolerances.
